Accident with handgun injures two

HOMOSASSA - Two Homosassa men were accidentally shot Saturday morning when one tried to sell a handgun to the other.

None of the injuries appeared life threatening, authorities said. Robert Thompson, 49, of 6981 W Grover Cleveland Blvd., was flown to Tampa General Hospital. Carl Page, 56, was treated at the scene.

Page had brought a two-shot derringer to Thompson's home, hoping to sell it to him, said Citrus County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gail Tierney. As Page was showing Thompson how to load the gun, it fired. The bullet hit Page's left pinkie finger, then struck Thompson in the neck.

When authorities were called about 11:15 a.m., Thompson was conscious, alert and able to speak with a deputy, Tierney said.
