Northeast is perfect

Northeast completed its county dominance with the Pinellas County Athletic Association flag football championship Saturday.

The Vikings (11-0) beat Clearwater 12-0. Last year, Clearwater (9-2) went through the county undefeated to finish with a PCAC championship.

Northeast's defense was a major force. The Vikings had four interceptions, including one in Clearwater's end zone by junior Kim Moonasar in the third quarter, ending a long Tornado drive. First-year Northeast coach Dan Dotter called the play the team's biggest defensive moment of the year and a "momentum killer" for Clearwater.

The Vikings scored two touchdowns in the first half. Senior quarterback Faye Williams and junior running back Kim Clark rushed for scores.

Clearwater and Northeast had met once before last month, a 21-6 Vikings win. In the PCAC game, the teams were more familiar with each other, and it showed. "It was just more intense," Dotter said.

Though Dotter said the Tornadoes were tougher to beat a second time, he hopes to play them again in this week's district tournament. Northeast and Clearwater are the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively, for Saturday's District 7 tournament at Seminole.
