Military news

Navy Lt. Jennifer L. Barger, daughter of Tanis and Jim Barger of St. Petersburg, has graduated from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Washington, D.C., and was promoted to her current rank. Her internship will be in internal medicine at Portsmouth Medical Center, Va. She is a 1995 graduate of Lakewood High School Center of Advanced Technologies and a 1999 graduate of the University of Florida.

Air Force Capt. Derek Ferre, son of Penny and Don Ferre of St. Petersburg, recently received the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroic service in Afghanistan in March 2003. He is a navigator with the 8th Special Operations Squadron stationed at Hurlburt Air Force Base. He is a 1986 graduate of St. Petersburg High School and a 1991 graduate of the University of Central Florida.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jesse Ray Wyckoff, son of Brad Wyckoff of Wesley Chapel, formerly of St. Petersburg, and Janet Wyckoff of Tampa, has graduated with honors from the Cryptologic Technician training program at Pensacola Naval Air Station, Corey Field. He has been assigned to the USS Ronald Reagan. He is a 2000 graduate of Gaither High School in Tampa.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Robert E. Burris, husband of Darleta Burris and father of Abi and Delaney of St. Petersburg, has been deployed to Iraq with Naval Construction Battalion 14, Detachment 13, based in Clearwater. He is a graduate of Dixie Hollins High School.

Marine Corps Pvt. Joshua R. Langdon, son of Joseph Langdon of St. Petersburg and Suzzette Ray of Holiday, has graduated from the Marine Corps Basic Combat Engineer Course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He is a 2003 graduate of Osceola High School in Seminole.

These two men have completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.:

Seaman Apprentice Ray D. Ralph, brother of Koren R. Allen of St. Petersburg and a graduate of St. Petersburg High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Andrew S. Lewis, son of Richard S. Lewis of St. Petersburg.
