St. Pete Strikers soccer team host Irish youth team

ST. PETERSBURG - An Irish youth soccer team will play a St. Petersburg team 4 p.m. Sunday at the Lakewood Soccer Complex, 2001 Country Club Way S.

The game, which features 13-under boys teams, is the first international match to be hosted by the St. Pete Strikers.

The Strikers' team will play a side from the St. Anthony's Youth Development Project in Dublin. Under supervision of Alphonsus Ryan of Dublin's Capuchin Franciscan Friary, the project was founded in 1991 for inner-city boys and girls 6 to 18 years old.

The project in recent years has taken members abroad to play soccer and experience cultural exchange. The team will spend 10 days in St. Petersburg with host families from St. Raphael's Church.

The Mid-County tax collector's office has relocated to the new Mid-County Service Center at 13025 Starkey Road, Largo, at the Starkey Lakes Business Park. The drivers' license office currently located at 2465-J McMullen-Booth Road will close June 4 and reopen at the new service center June 7. Residents and business owners and their employees in the Lealman area can now enroll for training to become part of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Participants will receive hands-on training in basic disaster response skills.
