Robert Wald, Brandon
Wald, 18, helped stop a district sweep by Wharton's potent tennis team by joining Garrett Miller in winning the No. 1 doubles title. The win gave the Eagles tennis team its first state tournament qualifier in more than a decade. The Brandon High senior signed with the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he hopes to earn a spot on the Army college tennis team. He is ranked fifth academically in the Brandon senior class, carrying a weighted GPA of 5.9. In USTA youth tennis, he is ranked 75th in the state for men 18-and-under.
