Neighborhood notebook: Gym to hold health and fitness event for charity

HISTORIC HYDE PARK - Xtreme Total Health & Fitness, 936 S Howard Ave., is hosting the "Fitness, Food and Fun Xtravaganza" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the gym's parking lots.

Events include food from local restaurants, classes with Xtreme personal trainers and a massage booth. Children's activities include a giant waterslide, cotton candy and snow cone machines, face painting and a water dunk tank.

Cost is $25 for adults; children are free. All proceeds will go to the Children's Cancer Center. For information, call 258-2639.

Easter Seals walk to be held at Al Lopez Park

TAMPA - Lace up your walking shoes Saturday for the Easter Seals' Walk With Me at Al Lopez Park, 4810 N Himes Ave. The day begins with refreshments and music at 7 a.m. and registration at 7:30 a.m. The 1-mile walk starts at 8:45 a.m., followed by the postevent party at 9:45 a.m.

Meet honorary Walk With Me ambassadors who have benefited from local Easter Seals programs. Registration is $10, and anyone who receives more than $25 in pledges will get a free T-shirt. Call 769-5910.

Salon to host free exhibit of artist's recent works

NORTH HYDE PARK - Look Salon, 209 N Armenia Ave., is hosting a free art exhibit featuring Danny King's recent works from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday. The collection titled "Technicolor Voodoo" will be on display for two months at the art gallery and styling salon.

Opening night will also feature music by hip hop group Double Helix, the Bukkake Brothers from WBUL-AM 1620 and DJ Lazy from WMNF-FM 88.5.

The salon is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Call 376-8971.

Chamber of Commerce to hold business roundtable

CHANNEL DISTRICT - The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce is holding its May Business Owners' Roundtable from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesday at its office, 615 Channelside Drive, Suite 108.

"Employee Benefits Programs - Traditional vs. PEO" is designed for chief executive officers, presidents and owners of businesses with 100 or fewer employees who want to improve their leadership skills and network among their peers. Greenery group to offer landscaping seminar

OLD HYDE PARK - Hyde Park Greenery, 1316 Swann Ave., is hosting "Landscaping with Bromeliads" at 10 a.m. Saturday. Gyula Nemeth, owner of Bromeliad Valley Nursery and a member of the International Bromeliad Society, will speak.

Demonstrations on how to mount the tropical plants on driftwood and bark will be available, and many bromeliads will be for sale. Free. Call 258-8582.
