PINELLAS PARK - Traffic backed up for miles on Interstate 275 Thursday afternoon after a truck slammed into a car near the Gandy Boulevard exit, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
At least three people were transported to Bayfront Medical Center after the crash, but information on their conditions was not available late Thursday.
The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. when a northbound truck slammed into a car that had stopped for traffic, the FHP said. The truck driver, Leslie Jefferson, 52, of Tampa, ran into the back of a 1996 Mazda driven by Richard Bennett, 20, of St. Petersburg, the FHP said.
Bennett's car hit the car in front of him, a 2001 Toyota driven by Meagen Forzaglia, 31, of St. Petersburg. She suffered minor injuries and her two passengers, ages 5 and 6, were not injured, authorities said.
After the collision, Jefferson's truck veered off the interstate and hit a light pole before sliding down an embankment and coming to a rest on its left side.
