Police arrest 9 people in Williams Park drug sweep

ST. PETERSBURG - Nine people were arrested on drug charges Thursday in the Williams Park area.

More arrests were expected as police search for at least six other suspects, said Lt. Lisa McKinney of the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Most of those arrested are thought to be street-level dealers who live downtown, McKinney said.

The arrests came after business owners complained about drug dealing. Undercover officers spent several weeks buying marijuana and prescription drugs in the area.

Of the nine booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Thursday, six were arrested on charges including possession and sale of marijuana, one for possession of marijuana and cocaine, one for trafficking in oxycodone and another for trafficking in hydrocodone, police said.
