HOW IT ADVANCED: Defeated Vancouver in seven; defeated Detroit in six; defeated San Jose in six.

COACH: Darryl Sutter, in his first full season, was hired Dec. 28, 2002. On April 11, 2003, he became the general manager as well. Sutter previously coached the Sharks. There, he became only the second coach in league history (along with the Islanders' Al Arbour) to improve his team's point total for five consecutive seasons, capped by a first-place finish in the Pacific with 99 in 2001-02.

LEADING SCORER: Jarome Iginla tied for the league lead with 41 regular-season goals and tied for 16th with 73 points. In the playoffs, he leads the league with 10 goals and is second behind the Lightning's Martin St. Louis with 17 points.

GOALIE: Miikka Kiprusoff, who was born in Turku, Finland, was acquired from the Sharks during the regular season and supplanted Roman Turek as the starter. In 38 games this season, he went 24-10-4 with a 1.69 goals-against average and .933 save percentage. In the playoffs, he is 12-7 with a 1.90 goals-against average and .930 save percentage.
