Army 2nd Lt. Jason R. Carey, son of Janice and Richard Carey of St. Petersburg, will attend an officer's leadership course in June at Airborne School and Army Ranger School, Fort Benning, Ga. Then he will join the 3rd Infantry Division (mechanized) at Fort Stewart, Ga.

Air Force Master Sgt. Brian Fitzgerald Mattingly, son of Joseph G. Mattingly and stepson of Mary Parks Mattingly of Pinellas Park, has retired after serving more than 20 years. Among many honors during his career, Mattingly received the Air Force Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster and the Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster. He graduated with an associate's degree from Central Texas College and a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Troy State University, Alabama. He is a distinguished graduate of the Non-Commissioned Officer Leadership School. He has accepted a teaching position in Newport News, Va. Army Pvt. Matthew C. Glisson, son of Donna Parker of St. Petersburg, was promoted to private (E-2) after completing the basic training list while enrolled in the delayed entry program in Lake Wales. He completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., and currently is in advanced individual training in armament and electrical systems repair at Fort Eustis, Va. Navy Fireman Brian L. Condron, son of Fay H. and John S. Condron of St. Petersburg, has completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 2003 graduate of St. Petersburg Catholic High School. These two men have graduated from the Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.: Seaman Brenton Glassgen, son of Donald Slocum of Gulfport and a 2003 graduate of Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va.
