Bryan Banks and Kenny Holmberg have always played baseball together.
They were teammates at Dunedin National Little League, Dunedin High, St. Petersburg College and Embry-Riddle University.
At each stop, they enjoyed moderate success, winning district and conference titles.
This weekend, the juniors can add a World Series championship to that list. Both have key roles for Embry-Riddle University, which starts play today in the NAIA World Series at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho.
The Eagles, ranked No. 2 nationally, face the Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.)-Jamestown (N.D.) winner at 3 p.m. The final of the double-elimination tournament is Wednesday.
Holmberg, an infielder, is batting .372 and is the team leader in hits (86), doubles (23) and RBIs (55). He went 4-for-5 in the first game of the super region last week to help Embry-Riddle advance to the World Series a third straight season.
Banks, a right-hander, is 6-0 with a 2.22 ERA. He started the championship game against Warner Southern, giving up eight hits and four earned runs in 51/3 innings to pick up the win.
