BOCA RATON - The novelty of being at the state tournament, a pulled finger from the starting quarterback and a ball-control Lake Worth flag football team all took a toll on Northeast as Lake Worth bounced the Vikings 12-0 in the quarterfinals Friday night.
The Trojans (13-3) scored twice early and held the Vikings to two first downs in the first half en route to their win in the two-day tournament held at Spanish River High.
"It was our first time being here; I think that kind of got to us," coach Dan Dotter said. "We lost our confidence early when they scored on us and we never got that back."
Down 12-0 at half, the Vikings got a bad break when quarterback Faye Williams injured her finger early in the third quarter. Nancy Lee, however, came off the bench to engineer the best drive of the night in the fourth quarter.
Lee took the team from its 18 to the Trojans 15 before the Vikings turned it over on downs. Lee struck three times to top receiver Kim Clark on the drive.
"(Lee) is one of our best athletes and she played well," Dotter said. "This whole team fought hard until the end; they just ran the time out on us."
Clark also played well defensively. She has an interception and broke up a pass in the end zone.
Lake Worth scored on two hookups from quarterback Jessica Graden to Alex Cunningham.
The first one, in the first quarter, was a 1-yard touchdown, and the other came from 3 yards out.
