Clearwater food pantry needs extra hands
The Religious Community Services Food Pantry needs volunteers to help sort food during the week.
The pantry, at 700 Druid Road in Clearwater, receives thousands of pounds of food every week and serves about 2,000 families. Volunteers also are needed to check applications for assistance and distribute food. For information, call 443-4031.
Program puts pets, seniors together
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Pinellas County, 9099 130th Ave. N, Largo, matches pets with senior citizens in the Pets for People program. Italian-American Club offers dinner dances
CLEARWATER - The Italian-American Club of Greater Clearwater, 200 McMullen-Booth Road, has a pasta dinner and dancing every Tuesday. Dinner at the club is at 5:30 p.m., followed by dancing until 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $6 for members and $8 for nonmembers. Learn about volunteering for hospice at orientation
The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast offers orientation classes for people interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities. The hospice also has a special program that enables high school students to make hospice volunteering a part of their educational experience. Pilates sessions available at wellness centers
CLEARWATER - The Wellness Centers of Morton Plant Mease Health Care offer the Pilates method of body conditioning. Beginner and advanced classes are offered Monday through Friday at the Cheek-Powell Wellness Center, Clearwater, and Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at the Palm Harbor Wellness Center.
The classes use six basic principles - concentration, control, centering, flowing movement, precision and breathing - and have been studied by numerous ballet companies and theater groups.
Beginner-level classes are good for the elderly because they are gentle, non-cardiovascular exercises that concentrate on mind-body awareness.
