Do you dig Bob Dylan? Well, even if you don't, odds are you will dig some of the sounds at "Dylan for Dollars: the WMNF Bob Dylan Tribute," the latest all-day concert to benefit community radio station WMNF-FM 88.5, which is raising money for its new home.
The roster features 30 buzzed-about Tampa Bay area acts, from reggae to rockabilly. The twist? Every one of 'em will be playing short sets of tunes by the man born Robert Zimmerman, whom many consider to be the voice of his generation, also the star of that creepy Victoria's Secret TV commercial.
Bands may also perform songs inspired by Mr. Dylan, above. If you haven't heard Tampa singer Michelle Ari giving a peppy new workout to Joan Baez's Dylan kiss-off Diamonds & Rust, check it out this weekend.
The lineup includes Alias Julius, Anna O., Barely Pink, Buckle, Carmela & the Transmitters, Cold Harbor, Crabgrass Cowboys, the Downshifters, Eajae and Addek, Handshake Squad, Jen Shamro, Jeremy Gloff, Lance Rowland, Michelle Ari, Magjc Marco, Mojo Gurus, Paul Reller, the Peabodies, Rebekah Pulley, Ronny Elliott, Sparky's Nightmare, Squirrels Gone Wild, Steve Connelly, Ted Lukas, the Diviners, Tribal Style, Triple Threat and the Vodkanauts.
The Dylan for Dollars tribute kicks off at noon Saturday at Skipper's Smokehouse, 910 Skipper Road, Tampa. $12 advance, $15 day of show. (813) 977-6474.
