TAMPA - A 22-year-old Lutz man died early Wednesday when the car he was a passenger in ran off Interstate 275 north of Bearss Avenue.

Police said the northbound 1997 Nissan Maxima, driven by 23-year-old Bradley D. Carpenter of Wesley Chapel, entered the median and spun out of control. It stopped after colliding with trees on the east shoulder.

The passenger, Gary G. Jackson, was pronounced dead at the scene, said FHP spokesman Trooper Larry Coggins. Carpenter was taken to University Community Hospital with minor injuries.
