TAMPA - Hillsborough Sheriff's investigators say they could not determine how fast Deputy David Abella was driving when he swerved around a semi truck on 50th Street and crashed April 20.
But according to their final report, Abella's death was a result of his trying to avoid a collision with the slow-moving truck which he had "failed to see."
Abella was married and the father of three children. His death marked the first time in 17 years that the sheriff's office had lost a deputy in the line of duty.
