ST. PETERSBURG - Estella C. Oliver, a New York state schoolteacher for about four decades before she retired to Florida, has died at 110.
Mrs. Oliver, a widow for 82 years, died Tuesday (June 1, 2004) at Carrington Place.
The former Estella Cole was born in Schroon Lake, N.Y., and spent her working years there as a schoolteacher.
At first, she taught children of all ages in a one-room school. When the school expanded in the 1930s, she devoted herself to third-graders.
About 1970, she retired to St. Petersburg and for a time lived near a sister, Kathleen Merrell, who died in 1997. She was a member of Pasadena Community Church.
Her husband, Archie, a mechanic, died in 1922. They married in 1918 and had no children.
Survivors include a nephew, Eugene Edwards, Surfside Beach, S.C.; and a niece, Charlotte Rowe, Schroon Lake.
Friends may call at 1 p.m. June 11 at Garden Sanctuary Funeral Home & Cemetery, 7950 131st St. N, Seminole. A service will be at 2 p.m.
