Pasco County detectives Friday were investigating the discovery of a dead infant at a Wesley Chapel mobile home, but without the results of clinical tests, deputies had not determined the cause of death or whether foul play was involved.
Sheriff's Office spokesman Kevin Doll said the investigation began early Thursday after Tawyna J. Hines, 25, was brought to the East Pasco Medical Center by her boyfriend, Joseph Eleuterio, 33. Hines was complaining of abdominal pains, Doll said.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a doctor found evidence of a recent birth during his examination, and Eleuterio went back to the Blair Drive home he shared with Hines. He summoned deputies shortly before 7 a.m. Thursday to investigate an infant who appeared to have been recently born about one month prematurely.
Doll said a preliminary autopsy was conducted Friday, but the Sheriff's Office was withholding results pending the outcome of further tests next week. The Medical Examiner's Office on Friday referred calls to the Sheriff's Office.
Doll said neither Hines nor Eleuterio was detained Friday or accused of any wrongdoing.
According to the East Pasco Medical Center public information office, Hines was released from the hospital Friday.
