(If a hurricane threatens Citrus County, all residents west of U.S. 19 must evacuate. Residents who do not have another safe place to wait through the storm should go to one of the shelters. Pets, alcoholic beverages and weapons will not be permitted inside Red Cross shelters.)

If you evacuate

If you are ordered to evacuate, you should take the following items to a shelter:

* Pillows, blankets, sleeping bags or air mattresses

* Extra clothing, sturdy shoes, eyeglasses, etc.

* Personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, contacts solution, etc.)

* Quiet games, books, playing cards and favorite toys for children

* Important papers, including driver's license, medical information, insurance policies and property inventories

* Lightweight folding chairs or cots
