Emergency information for residents of Hernando County

(Shelters are listed in order of opening. A minimum of two shelters will be open during emergencies. All shelters are equipped to accommodate handicapped evacuees. Pets, alcoholic beverages and weapons will not be permitted inside Red Cross shelters.)

If you are ordered to evacuate, you should take the following items to a shelter:

- Pillows, blankets, sleeping bags or air mattresses

- Extra clothing, sturdy shoes, eyeglasses, etc.

- Personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, contacts solution, etc.)

- Quiet games, books, playing cards and favorite toys for children

- Important papers, including driver's license, medical information, insurance policies and property inventories

- Lightweight folding chairs or cots
