By Times Staff Writer
Published June 7, 2004

It's an issue that just gets hotter: Are the business practices of offshore outsourcing good for the economy or bad for the U.S. job market?

The pros and cons - with emphasis on the implications of offshore outsourcing of software development - will be discussed June 15 during a debate sponsored by St. Petersburg College. Dean Shri Goyal will moderate the debate, which begins at 5:30 p.m. in the University Partnership Center's digital auditorium on the Seminole campus, 9200 113th St. N.

On the pro side: Robert Black of JP Morgan Chase and Chuck Papageorgiou of Ideasphere.

On the con side: Shawn Ellis of Raymond James and Mark Swanson of Cerebit.

Their debate resolution is, "Resolved: Offshore outsourcing software development can significantly reduce costs without compromising quality on a sustainable basis."

The debate, presented by the College of Technology and Management, is scheduled to continue until 9 p.m. This also includes time for points of view from other contributors, questions from the audience and moderator, and two breaks. It is free to the public.
