Gotta minute: Martin Cibak

By JOANNE KORTH
Published June 7, 2004

QUESTION: You made your Stanley Cup final debut in Game 4. Was it just like any other game?

CIBAK: No, it was the final of the Stanley Cup. You're playing for the greatest award. It was the biggest game of my life.

QUESTION: What were your emotions?

CIBAK: I was nervous like before every game. But I was more nervous before my first playoff game in Philly. I knew what to expect. I told myself it's the same game. The players are not better, not worse. So just play my game and work hard every shift.

QUESTION: You have played in five playoff games, all in the past two series. How does it help to have fresh legs this late in the postseason?

CIBAK: The guys who have not played every game, we're still lifting every day. We have strong legs. The guys who play every game are tired, and they have only 24 hours to get rested and play again. Our legs are stronger. You can see it in the game. But obviously, you want to be the guy playing every game.

QUESTION: What approach do you take?

CIBAK: You just do your job. You don't worry, "Oh, can I keep up?' Obviously, you're going to keep up. You are stronger. It's only mental because physically, you're better.
