Aquatic Center plans second birthday party

SEMINOLE - A splash-filled party will celebrate the Seminole Aquatic Center's second birthday from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Nautical Nonsense Bash will include games, prizes, a movie to be watched from inside the pool, and special entertainment by SpongeBob Squarepants.

The poolside party is open to all recreation center members and their guests. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Admission is $2 per person. The Aquatic Center is at 9100 113th St. N. For more information, call 391-8345.

Seminole Community Library offers movies suitable for the entire family at 2 p.m. every Saturday in June. Dennis the Menace will be featured Saturday, The Incredible Mr. Limpet on June 19, and Jumanji on June 26.

The Seminole Aquatic Center is giving swimming lessons to beginners and helping swimmers with stroke development. The two-week classes will be held through July. Registration for Session II classes (June 21 to July 1) is June 19; Session III (July 6-16) registration is June 26; and Session IV (July 19-29) registration is July 10. Registration begins at 9 a.m. for Seminole residents and 11 a.m. for nonresidents and costs $30 for each two-week session.

All classes Monday through Thursday last 25 minutes and are offered at four times: 9-9:25 a.m., 9:30-9:55 a.m., 4-4:25 p.m. and 4:30-4:55 p.m. There are no makeup days or refunds for inclement weather. Private lessons are also available. For more information, call Jerry at 397-6085.

Residents, parents, graduates, and former teachers and coaches are invited to nominate outstanding past athletes and coaches for the Seminole High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Athletic nominees must have at least three major accomplishments, including All-America or all-state, competition in a state championship, collegiate honors, county record-holder, professional honors, or participation or invitation to a national or international competition. Coaches must have served at least five years as a head coach at Seminole High School and received coaching honors.

Obtain a nomination form at Seminole High School, 8401 131st St. N, and submit it to the school's athletic director by Sept. 15. For more information, call 547-7536.

A reception for Meredith Kovarik, Miss Seminole 2004, is scheduled for 6 p.m. today at the Seminole Recreation Center. Ms. Kovarik, who is competing for the title of Miss Florida, will speak on Odyssey of the Mind, perform her talent song Power of the Dream and model her competition wardrobe.
