TECO hearings

By Times Staff Writer
Published June 11, 2004

The Florida Public Service Commission was scheduled to conclude late Thursday the third and final day of hearings on Tampa Electric Co.'s controversial coal-transport contract with fellow TECO Energy Inc. subsidiary TECO Transport. Expert witnesses testified Thursday on behalf of Tampa Electric and CSX Transportation, which claims the Tampa utility didn't seriously consider its proposal to ship the coal via rail. The PSC staff, which issued a prehearing statement last month criticizing the agreement, is expected to issue a formal recommendation by July 8. The five-member commission is scheduled to vote on the staff recommendation on July 20.
