BROOKSVILLE - A Brooksville man was arrested Friday on charges he robbed a woman at gunpoint and made off with $250 and prescription medication bottles, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
Joseph Mathis Jr., 44, is being held at the Hernando County Jail on charges of armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon, records show. His bail has been set at $100,000.
According to sheriff's reports, on Wednesday Mathis approached a woman he knew as she sat in her truck, flashed two silver pistols and demanded $100 he said she owed him. A second person then removed a wallet, containing two bank cards and $250 in cash, and prescription medication bottles from a purse in the vehicle.
Under questioning, Mathis told deputies he displayed a gun and demanded money, the report stated.
Deputies say two others are being investigated in connection with the incident. Their names were not released because the investigation is ongoing.
The name of the woman is being withheld by the St. Petersburg Times because the case is still open, official said.
State records show Mathis previously has been convicted of burglary, trespassing and dealing in stolen property.
