CLEVELAND - Tim Couch was released Friday by the Browns, a fittingly unceremonious sendoff for the quarterback and former No. 1 overall draft pick.
The expected move was delayed to resolve a grievance Couch filed against the Browns for banning him from working out at their training facility.
Team spokesman Todd Stewart said the grievance filed through the NFL Players Association has been resolved, and Couch is no longer on Cleveland's roster.
Couch, who passed for 11,131 yards and 64 touchdowns in five seasons, may soon sign with the Green Bay Packers, who have been interested in acquiring him to back up Brett Favre.
ELWAY INDUCTION: Former Broncos quarterback John Elway has chosen his oldest daughter to introduce him at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony Aug. 8. Elway had hoped to have each of his four children - daughters Jessie, Jordan and Juliana and son Jack - do the honors. However, the Hall of Fame informed Elway its policy requires only one person deliver the presenter's speech.
CHARGERS: San Diego welcomed former Bucs left tackle Roman Oben, only to have two other projected starters from its shaky offensive line stay away from the opening day of minicamp. Center Jason Ball was a no-show because he wants to be traded, and guard Toniu Fonoti, who missed all of last year with injuries, was absent without an excuse.
LIONS: Tight end Mikhael Ricks was released after two years with the team. Last season, Ricks finished second on the team with 434 yards receiving yards on 37 receptions.
STEELERS: Receiver Plaxico Burress skipped workouts for undisclosed reasons, which probably centered around his lack of a contract beyond this season. Agent Eugene Parker said Burress will report to training camp July 30.
