WIMAUMA - A Ruskin teen died Saturday morning when his car overturned on U.S. 301 near the Manatee County line.

Phillip J. Combs, 18, was driving north on U.S. 301 near Willow Road, police say, when a southbound pickup swerved into his lane.

Isaac Contreras-Vasquez, 26, of Wimauma had lost control of his Ford F-150 after driving onto the right shoulder, police say. Contreras-Vasquez overcorrected and spun into oncoming traffic, striking Combs' 1988 Honda in the front left.

The Honda was pushed off the road and flipped once. Combs died at the scene. His passenger, Gary W. Turner, 41, was injured and taken to a hospital. Contreras-Vasquez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was flown to Tampa General Hospital. Two of his three passengers have been identified as Celso Bautista and Condalareo Gonzalez. They also were taken to a local hospital.
