Recommendation to fire teacher backed by board

The Pinellas School Board on Tuesday approved a recommendation to fire a Southern Oak Elementary music teacher charged with sexually abusing two students at the school.

Mark C. Fronczak was arrested in April and charged with capital sexual battery and lewd and lascivious molestation.

Fronczak, 49, posted $220,000 bail in May and was released. He plans to ask for a school district hearing to present evidence in his case, which involves two 8-year-old girls.

The mother of one of the girls has said Fronczak touched her daughter inappropriately over her clothes. Pinellas sheriff's detectives launched an investigation after a second girl made allegations.

A Pinellas teacher for 18 years, Fronczak earned $52,450 a year before he was placed on unpaid leave after his arrest.
