ORLANDO - A man convicted of first-degree murder for killing his wife at a day care center was sentenced to death.
Theodore Rodgers Jr., 64, was convicted in October of killing his wife, Florence "Teresa" Henderson, on Feb. 14, 2001, Valentine's Day. The jury voted 8-4 to recommend the death penalty. A judge affirmed that wednesday.
At trial, children who were at the Pine Hills center testified that Rodgers kicked his wife and shot her as she tried to escape.
Rodgers, who suspected Henderson was having an affair with her ex-husband, said he and Henderson struggled for the gun but he did not deliberately shoot her.
Rodgers had been convicted of manslaughter in 1979 for fatally shooting a girlfriend, and of robbery in 1963.
