Devil Rays have earned more fans at the Trop

Published June 20, 2004

For the first time in their history, the Devil Rays are playing competitive, exciting baseball. So when I read the box score after the first game back at the Trop this week, I do not want to see an attendance figure in the 9,000 range. Don't bandwagon like most Tampa Bay residents did with the Lightning or Bucs, first ignoring your teams, then rushing out to be the first to buy your championship T-shirts and hats. You waited 20 years for baseball, then you waited for a competitive product on the field. Now you have it. Support them.

Level the playing field before leveling stadiums

Someone needs to tell baseball commissioner Bud Selig that you do not increase revenue by building a new stadium. You increase revenue by increasing fan attendance, and to do that you need a level playing field so that all teams can be in the title hunt. The answer to this, everyone knows, is a salary cap like the NFL.

Kudos to the Lightning and the Times' coverage

I would like to compliment the Times for the great commemorative magazine following the Lightning's Stanley Cup victory. Your photographers did an outstanding job.

The Lightning played every game like champions and deserved to win. Congratulations to the team and to the Times for its fantastic coverage of the Stanley Cup champions.

Kudos to the Times photographers and writers for the Lightning Stanley Cup commemorative magazine. Simple, to the point, excellent. Congratulations to all involved.
