John J. Thomas has been named development director for the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Thomas was marketing program manager for the Square D North American division of Schneider Electric in Lexington, Ky.


Bud "Edgar" Gunter has purchased Sharpe Mortgage Lending Services Inc., Tampa, and has been named president. Gunter was founding branch manager and banking vice president prior to taking over ownership.


Vern Smith has been named president of the Independent Electrical Contractors Inc., Florida west coast chapter. Smith is president of S&S Electric Co., Oldsmar.


King Engineering Associates Inc., Tampa, announced these appointments: Rhonda T. Nelson and Scott D. Sheridan, senior associates; and Kyle J. Cyr, Jeffrey E. Elick, Elizabeth Lyon-Hall, Mark J. Gladback, Victor Huggins, John Z. Kallas, Richard H. Lawrence, James Ledbetter, Jeffrey S. Lowe, Elizabeth Rodriguez and James L. Waite, associates. Nelson is a project manager; Sheridan is manager of the planning department; Cyr is a senior project engineer; Elick is a project engineer; Lyon-Hall is a landscape architect; Gladback is a senior designer; Huggins is a project engineer; Kallas is geographic information systems manager; Lawrence is a senior land surveyor; Ledbetter is a land surveyor; Lowe is a senior project manager; Rodriguez is manager of the transportation planning department; and Waite is a senior designer. All are based in Tampa.

TBE Group , Clearwater, announced that John Harter has been named vice president and Joseph M. Fiorelli has been promoted to assistant director. Harter will continue to serve as national engineering and operations manager for TBE's utilities division; Fiorelli will continue to serve as TBE's national fleet manager.

Lynn Marsland has been promoted to chief financial officer for Ash Engineering Inc., Tampa. Marsland was financial manager.


Dr. David A. Bernstein has been inducted as a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Bernstein was elected for his achievements in internal medicine and the specialty of adult medical care. He is a primary care physician for Morton Plant Mease Primary Care, Clearwater.


AAA Auto Club South, Tampa, announced that Rose Ferland has been promoted to vice president, Auto Club South Insurance Co.; and Dan Jiles has been elected to the insurance company's board of directors. Ferland was managing director of insurance automation and product development; Jiles is managing director of AAA Insurance Agency.


Charles F. Ketchey received the Olin Mott Golden Heart Award. Given by the Joshua House, Tampa, which is operated by the Childrens Home Society of Florida, the award recognized Ketchey for his work with abused and neglected children in Hillsborough County. Ketchey is a shareholder in the corporate litigation practice group in the Tampa office of the law firm Akerman Senterfitt.

Carl A. Schuh has been elected to the executive committee of the St. Petersburg Bar Association. Schuh has a private practice in St. Petersburg and concentrates in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration and general civil practice.

Kristen A. Shepley has been promoted to communications manager for the Tampa law firm of Carlton Fields. Shepley was public relations coordinator.

Timothy P. Shusta has been reappointed president and chairman of the Tampa Trade Zone Board Inc. and has been re-elected secretary of the Propeller Club Southeast region. Shusta is counsel in the regional admiralty and tort litigation group of the Tampa law firm Phelps Dunbar LLP.


Goodwill Industries-Suncoast Inc., St. Petersburg, announced that Christopher Cope and Cynthia Kistner have been elected to the board of directors. Cope is president of Sunbelt Lending Services, Clearwater; and Kistner is manager of the sleep disorder center and neurodiagnostics for Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater.
