WEEKI WACHEE - Two Weeki Wachee mermaids will shake their scaly tails Tuesday with rapper Ludacris for a national audience.

The appearance at the start of Ludacris' BET Music Awards performance will be the second time this month the finned ones will appear on the small screen. Weeki Wachee Springs was featured on the second episode of The Simple Life 2, a show starring Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie.

The mermaids - Sativa and Christa - were chosen by producers on Monday and filmed their spot on Tuesday against a green-screened tank in Ocala, said John Athanason, Weeki Wachee Springs marketing director.

"(Ludacris') producers saw them on The Simple Life and thought it would be a great intro for his show," Athanason said. "We're excited that our name's getting out there to people."

As part of the performance, the mermaids will be on giant video screens underwater, as Ludacris makes his entrance on-stage to perform live.

The BET Music Awards show airs on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on cable channel 49.
