Preps

Area signings

Three former all-county basketball players all signed recently with Florida College in Temple Terrace: St. Petersburg guard Ricky Pena, St. Petersburg Catholic's Travis Karto and 2003 SPC grad Chad Radosevich.

Pena and Karto led their teams this season further into the playoffs than either school had been in 15 years.

The 6-foot-2 Pena, on the Times' All-Pinellas County first team in 2003-04, averaged 18 points at shooting guard as the Green Devils won their first district title since 1988. They won their first-round region playoff game before losing to Fort Myers.

Karto, a 6-3 guard/forward, was a key player in the Barons' run to the state championship game. He averaged 18.3 points and 6.3 rebounds, both second on the team, and was also an all-state selection and second-team all-county. He was chosen for the Florida Athletic Coaches Association North-South All-Star Game.

Radosevich, who led the county in 3-pointers his final season, averaged more than 20 points in 2002-03 for SPC and was third-team all-county.

Largo's 6-6 forward Kyle Johnson, one of the Packers top rebounders this past season, has signed with St. Petersburg College.

Three St. Petersburg football players also chose colleges: lineman Dan Wallace will attend Harvard, running back L.J. Hopkins is going to Central Michigan and receiver Jerrold Robinson will attend Methodist College in North Carolina.

Hopkins (6-0, 230) rushed for 686 yards and six touchdowns last season. Robinson caught 23 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns.
