Kerry plans to use the Florida stop to discuss how lessons gleaned from science and innovative advances made by the space program can be applied toward making America stronger, his campaign said Monday. No specific details of the visit, including time and exact location, have been released.

Florida is one of the nation's top electoral battlegrounds, with Republicans and Democrats both expecting a close contest in November for the Sunshine State's 27 electoral votes.

President Bush won the White House in 2000 following a 537-vote victory in Florida, one that came following rounds of recounts and court challenges, plus claims thousands of ballots were not counted.

Kerry is expected to formally accept the Democratic presidential nomination at the convention July 29. His last Florida visit was July 8, when he appeared with his vice presidential candidate, John Edwards - who was back in Florida for a pair of fund-raisers Sunday, collecting $1-million for the campaign.
