NFC: Rams OT re-injures his back

MACOMB, Ill. - Rams offensive tackle Kyle Turley re-injured his surgically repaired back in practice Saturday.

The team characterized the injury as a strain and tests were done at training camp rather than having Turley return to St. Louis. Results were not available.

Turley, who left the field on a cart during the morning practice, has been trying to build his strength and regain pounds lost since the surgery. He had been seeing limited action in workouts.

COWBOYS: Running back Eddie George went through his first workout. "It is weird not putting on the Titan blue," said George, who signed July 23 after being released by Tennessee. "I'm just trying to understand the plays, understand the philosophy."

GIANTS: Tight end Jeremy Shockey is sitting out practice while he recovers from surgery on his right foot. He had a screw inserted on June 22 after tests showed an area prone to fracture: "I probably could go out there and practice every day, but that's risking injury and stuff like that."

PACKERS: Green Bay finalized a four-year contract with defensive tackle Corey Williams, but not before the sixth-round pick inadvertently showed up for the start of practice. He was told he had to leave the field and go across the street to team headquarters at Lambeau Field to sign the contract, then he could participate.

SAINTS: Defensive end Will Smith, the team's top pick, signed a six-year contract. Wide receiver Devery Henderson, a second-round selection, is the only pick who hasn't signed.
