INVERNESS - Several government agencies are offering a Back to School Safety program for children from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 4 at the Whispering Pines Park Pavilion.

Activities will include a bicycle rodeo, school bus stop and crossing safety, backpack safety-related health tips and other topics. Free hot dogs and sodas will be provided, and children will have a chance to win a new bike. Shoes are required to ride the bicycles. Bicycles and helmets will be available to borrow, or children can bring their own. The program is sponsored by the city Department of Parks and Recreation, the health department, Citrus Memorial Hospital, the Citrus County School Board and the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.
