ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Rookie running back Tatum Bell ended his three-day holdout on Saturday only to break his right middle finger on a helmet during a drill.
Coach Mike Shanahan said he hopes Bell, the team's second-round pick, will be able to practice this week, but he won't be sure until doctors examine the finger.
"It all depends on how bad it is. You never know if they are going to have pins put in it, or do they just set it in a splint," he said.
BILLS: Buffalo's top two picks will be at training camp when it starts today, after agreeing to contract terms. Quarterback J.P. Losman signed a five-year deal that includes a $5.6-million signing bonus. It could be worth as much as $24.5-million if Losman meets all his incentives. Receiver Lee Evans also reached a deal but terms were not disclosed. The Bills hope to groom Losman as the eventual replacement to starter Drew Bledsoe. STEELERS: Pittsburgh opened training camp without its first-round pick, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. His agent, Leigh Steinberg, continued to work on a deal, which could come as early as today.
TEXANS: Tight end Bennie Joppru injured his groin for the second straight summer, forcing the team to place him on the physically unable to perform list with safety Ramon Walker and quarterback B.J. Symons. Joppru, a second-round pick out of Michigan last year, had season-ending surgery last August to repair his first injury. He practiced at full speed this spring, but reinjured the groin preparing for training camp.
