An interactive Web site set up by Pinellas County Schools' transportation department crashed early Monday after receiving hundreds of inquiries from parents wanting to know about their children's bus routes.
Transportation officials hoped it would be working by this morning.
Parents who did not receive a postcard from the district with their child's bus route information can try logging on to the site, edulog.pinellas.k12.fl.us/webquery/, or they can call the transportation department's help line,(727) 547-7174. They also can call their child's school or ask other children in the neighborhood where they catch the bus, said routing supervisor Tom Reichert.
Reichert advises parents who are unable to learn about their child's bus route to plan another method of transportation. He cautions that those who choose to drive their children to school should also plan to pick them up.
Parents scramble to get spots for kids
Hundreds of Pinellas families flooded the district's two Family Education and Information Centers Monday in a last-minute effort to secure seats for their children for the new school year, which begins today.
Many parents had come to the centers Thursday or Friday but were unable to register because computers were down.
Those who still have not registered or secured seat assignments for their children can visit the St. Petersburg center, 3420 Eighth Ave. S, or the Clearwater center, 1101 Marshall St., until 6 p.m. today.
They need to bring the child's birth certificate or a certified copy or other proof of birth and proof of residency such as a utility bill that includes the parent or guardian's name and street address. A recent report card is required for children entering grades 1-12.
