Man sent to prison for sexual assault

By Times Staff Writer

LARGO - A Largo man charged with sexually assaulting a woman earlier this year has been sentenced to more than six years in prison.

Joe A. Jackson, 43, was arrested in March on charges he approached a 21-year-old woman on Lake Avenue N in Largo, then masturbated in front of her, grabbed her breast and threatened to rape her. After the attacker fled the area, two other people reported seeing a man masturbating along the Pinellas Trail. Authorities arrested Jackson shortly thereafter.

Jackson pleaded no contest to charges of attempted sexual battery and lewd or lascivious exhibition last week. He was sentenced to slightly more than 82 months in prison, though he will receive credit for the 142 days he has served in jail since his arrest.
