3 armed men invade home, beat resident

TAMPA - A Tampa man says three armed men invaded his home early Thursday and beat him in his living room before leaving with $380 in cash.

William Collins, 51, of the 4800 block of Flamingo Road, told Tampa police he was watching television about 1:45 a.m. when the men, wearing masks and hoods, entered through a sliding glass door.

They demanded money and drugs, then ransacked the home. Before leaving, one of the men hit him on the head and arm with the butt of a shotgun, Collins said. Collins told police he doesn't know why the men targeted him.

Because the sound on his television was too loud, he said he couldn't hear the vehicle. He described two of the men as about 6 feet tall, one with a handgun and the other with a rifle. The third was taller, he said, about 6 feet, 4 inches. All were thin and wore dark clothing, he said.
