Wild pitch scores winner to keep Ravens BC alive

Published August 7, 2004

Pinchrunner David DelGuercio scored on a wild pitch in the 10th inning to propel the Ravens Baseball Club (Alonso) past Bradenton Kirby Stewart 3-2 on Friday in the American Legion state tournament at DeLand.

The Ravens stayed alive in the losers bracket of the double-elimination tournament. Alonso faces the winner of the DeLand/Samford Seminole game at 12:15 p.m. today.

Matt Freshcorn singled to open the 10th. His replacement, DelGuercio, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on another wild pitch for the win.

Mike Harley (2-for-5, double) drove in the first run of the game with a single in the second. Bradenton tied it at 1 in the bottom of the inning and the score remained that way until the eighth when Neill Boyd (2-for-4) gave the Ravens a 2-1 lead with an RBI single.

Alonso starter Robert Kearney (one earned run, seven strikeouts) surrendered a leadoff double in the ninth and coach Landy Faedo removed him for Matt Stephenson, who gave up a bloop double down the line and the score was again tied.

The Ravens fell into the losers bracket on the first day of the tournament with a 6-5 loss to Boca Raton.
