Elderly woman killed in Ulmerton Road crash

LARGO - An 83-year-old woman was killed Friday in a traffic crash on Ulmerton Road.

Hazel Carter died at the scene of the 4:24 p.m. accident.

She was a passenger in a 1996 Buick driven by her husband, William G. Carter, 83. He was traveling west on Ulmerton and turned south on Cumberland Drive into the path of a 2003 Sterling box truck, police said.

The truck, headed east on Ulmerton Road, hit the passenger side of the Buick, police said.

William Carter was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center with upper body fractures.

The driver of the truck, Elwood T. White, 50, was not injured.
