CLEARWATER - As expected, the city has been named as a defendant in three different lawsuits that stem from the 2002 fatal fire at Dolphin Cove condominiums.
Families for the two people who died as a result of the blaze, 75-year-old Robert Kelly and 81-year-old Jean Zetterberg, say the city was negligent in its handling of the fire, which started in a fifth-floor kitchen.
A condo resident who was not injured, Paul McCoy, also added the city as a defendant. Several condo residents and one Clearwater firefighter have already sued the condominium association and its property manager for failing to maintain the building's fire extinguishing system.
