New regional chief named for VA hospitals

ST. PETERSBURG - Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony Principi has named George "Buzz" Gray as the new chief of the VA hospital network in Florida.

Gray will replace Dr. Elwood Headley beginning Sept 5. Principi reassigned Headley last month because of problems with a flawed trial computer system and management problems at the VA Medical Center at Bay Pines.

Gray, who began his VA career in 1972, is the medical center director of the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System in Little Rock.

In his new post, Gray will oversee VA hospitals in Florida, south Georgia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
