SEMINOLE - Seminole High School has one of the highest community volunteer rates in the county.
Last year, more than 500 parents, business owners and neighbors tutored and mentored students, worked in the school office and media center, helped teachers, and raised money for special events.
With school open a week, more than 100 volunteers have come forward to help. But the school needs more, according to Victoria Runkle, the community volunteer assistant and business coordinator.
"We usually are among schools with the highest number of volunteers," Runkle said. "Last year our volunteers put in more than 38,500 hours at the school. We would like to invite any local businesses, families or corporations to join in a partnership with Seminole High School. There are many different ways our school could use the help."
Runkle is looking for people to join the School Advisory Committee, which is involved in school budgeting, policies and program planning.
Parents and business people are needed to share their life experiences with classes and students during the Great American Teach-In in November.
Tutors, mentors, chaperones, classroom assistants, building and grounds helpers, and many other volunteer opportunities are available. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Victoria Runkle at 547-7536, ext. 136, or send an e-mail toVictoria_Runkle@places.pcsb.org
The Recreation Center's Senior Sports Days, 9-11 a.m. Thursday and Aug. 26, will include pickleball, badminton, billiards and table tennis. The activities are free with a recreation card. The center is at 9100 113th St. N.
