Clearwater has a new emergency manager

CLEARWATER - A man with nearly 30 years of municipal experience has been selected to direct the city's emergency response.

Bill Vola was named Clearwater's emergency manager Monday by City Manager Bill Horne. Vola will coordinate the preparation, education, planning, response and recovery efforts for Clearwater's disaster response and homeland security programs.

Vola, who holds a degree in fire and safety engineering technology and has served in multiple roles in Florida city governments, including fire chief, emergency manager and building official.

The Clearwater position is new and is funded by a federal homeland security department grant.
