Phish, the fathers of the jam band movement, officially say goodbye this weekend with a series of concerts at the Coventry Festival in Vermont, the group's home state. Tickets to the extravaganza are long gone, but phans who can't make it to the show get a consolation prize: The concerts will be simulcast on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at select movie theaters around the country, including the Regal Citrus Park 20 in Tampa.
Consider it a last chance to see and hear guitarist Trey Anastasio, keyboardist Page McConnell, bassist Mike Gordon and drummer Jon Fishman perform their heavily improvisational mix of sweet pop and rock, hard-grooving funk, jazz fusion, bluegrass and whatever else they throw in. Live is where Phish thrives: Studio recordings, including the recently released Undermind, have never done the band justice.
The big-screen broadcasts will feature high definition and Dolby surround sound. Show time is 5:30 p.m. on both days, and tickets, if still available, are $20 for each concert.
Tickets may be purchased at the Citrus Park box office, 7999 Citrus Park Town Center Mall, Tampa; or online at http://regalcm.com/phish/
