Kill Bill: Vol. 2

DIRECTOR: Quentin Tarantino

CAST: Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen, Gordon Liu, Michael Parks, Bo Svenson

SYNOPSIS: The tale of a vengeful assassin (Uma Thurman) left for dead after a wedding massacre continues, with the Bride face-to-face with Bill (David Carradine), who murderously objected to her wedding.

WHAT WE SAID: "Kill Bill, Vol. 2 is pulpish fiction, if not of the highest order then at least at its most exuberant," wrote Times Film Critic Steve Persall, who gave it an A-. "Sure, the Kill Bill saga is an extended inside joke, but without a trace of arrogance for anyone who doesn't get it."

MPAA RATING: R; strong violence, harsh profanity, brief nudity

RUNNING TIME: 137 min.

Johnson Family Vacation

DIRECTOR: Christopher Erskin

CAST: Cedric the Entertainer, Vanessa L. Williams, Solange Knowles, Bow Wow, Gabby Soleil, Shannon Elizabeth, Steve Harvey, Aloma Wright

SYNOPSIS: Nate (Cedric) and his big brother Mack (Harvey) are in a pitched battle for the coveted "family of the year" award at the Johnson summertime bash in Missouri. The winner goes home with a year's worth of bragging rights and the position of mom's favorite son.

WHAT WE SAID: "Cedric gives two immensely likable performances, as beleaguered Nate and Nate's oversexed Uncle Earl," wrote Times reviewer Philip Booth, who gave the film a C-plus. "Harvey, Williams and Bow Wow, too, are consistently fun to watch. Too bad they're stuck in such a routine vehicle."

MPAA RATING: PG-13; some sexual references, crude humor and brief drug material.

RUNNING TIME: 95 min.

The Prince & Me

DIRECTOR: Martha Coolidge

CAST: Julia Stiles, Luke Mably, Miranda Richardson

SCREENPLAY: Mark Amin and Katherine Fugate

SYNOPSIS: All-American college student Paige (Stiles) doesn't know her new boyfriend (Mably) is a Danish prince having a final fling before ascending to the throne.

WHAT WE SAID: Teen reviewer Billy Norris gave The Prince & Me a B on the Times' Xpress page, writing that while he thought it would solely appeal to women, it's actually "a great date movie ... What balances the appeal is that in addition to the romance, considerable attention is given to the prince's relationship with his butler, his roommate and Paige's brothers."

MPAA RATING: PG; mild innuendo

RUNNING TIME: 111 min.

Good Bye, Lenin!

DIRECTOR: Wolfgang Becker

CAST: Katrin Sass, Daniel Bruhl, Florian Lukas

SYNOPSIS: Comedy about a comatose woman (Sass), who awakes after the Berlin Wall falls. Told by doctors that the slightest shock could kill her, her son (Bruhl) decides to protect her health by convincing her the Cold War still is going on. German, with English subtitles.

WHAT WE SAID: The Times didn't review this film.

MPAA RATING: R; profanity, sexuality.

RUNNING TIME: 118 min.
