One Act Weekend: People with short attention spans should catch the Carrollwood Players 7th Annual One Act Weekend. The festival features performances of eight short plays by playwrights hailing from Florida, Canada and New York. The mini-plays include comedy, romance and drama, touching on topics including horrible auditions, young love and physical abuse.

One Act Weekend performances are at 8 p.m. today and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Carrollwood Playhouse, 4333 Gunn Highway in Plantation Plaza. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and students with ID. Call (813) 265-4000.

MOSI party: Welcome Athens to Tampa at the Museum of Science and Industry. The museum will kick start the XXVIII Olympic Games with a viewing party tonight. The opening ceremonies will be displayed on a large screen in the museum's grand lobby. The event will feature authentic Greek food, drinks, an "It's Greek to Me" trivia contest, entertainment, door prizes, games and access to MOSI exhibits. Guests will receive a commemorative memento.

Catch the opening ceremonies from 6-11 p.m. at MOSI, 4801 E Fowler Ave. Admission is free. Child care is available for $10. Call (813) 987-6000.

Restaurant fundraiser: Dive into Splash! An Ocean Grill's three-year anniversary celebration and fundraiser for the Children's Heart Center at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital. Splash! will donate half the money made Tuesday night to the hospital. Splash! was voted the Weekly Planet's Best of the Bay best seafood restaurant in 2003. Menu items include fish, steak, lobster, pasta dishes and a selection of wines and champagnes.

The fundraiser runs from 5-10 p.m. at the restaurant, 3973 Van Dyke Road at the corner of Dale Mabry Highway in Lutz. Reservations are suggested. Visit splashanoceangrill.com or call (813) 269-8611.
