Friday's closings and schedule changes

GOVERNMENT

Belleair: Town hall open until noon, depending on the weather. There is a garbage pickup. Crews will be on call Saturday for cleanup.

Belleair Bluffs: Closed; no garbage pickup.

Clearwater: Closed. Citizen information is open at 562-4636. There is a garbage pickup.

Dunedin: City hall will be open as long as weather conditions permit. There is garbage pickup but no recycling pickup.

Gulfport: City hall closed, but regular garbage pickup.

Hillsborough and Tampa: Federal, state, county and city offices, libraries, state and federal courts closed. Hillsborough County will have no garbage, yard waste or recycling collection service today or Saturday.

Indian Rocks Beach: Closed. No garbage collection until Monday.

Indian Shores: Closed.

Largo: City hall closed. There is a garbage pickup but no debris pickup.

Pinellas Park: City offices, the library and the brush site are closed. Garbage and recycling collection is canceled.

Oldsmar: Closed.

Safety Harbor: City offices closed. There is a garbage pickup.

St. Petersburg: Offices, recreation centers, the Pier, Sunken Gardens, Boyd Hill, libraries and golf courses will be closed. Garbage collection will be done until 10 a.m., with preferences given to low-lying areas.

Seminole: City hall and fire stations will be staffed for 24 hours starting today. Library and recreation center are closed today and Saturday. No garbage pickup today and Saturday.

Southwest Florida Water Management District: All offices closed.

Pinellas County Animal Services: Large animal evacuation site at Walsingham Park, 12620 102nd Ave. N, is open.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs: St. Petersburg Regional Office, 9500 Bay Pines Blvd., is closed.

Waste Services of Florida: No garbage pickup .

MAIL

No delivery to evacuation areas. Morning delivery to nonevacuation areas. Beach stations will be closed. All others will have limited staffing.

HOSPITALS

Palms of Pasadena: Closed today.

Town & Country: Closed today.

Most hospitals are canceling elective surgeries today, but they will be staffed to handle emergency procedures.

TRANSPORTATION

Airports: Tampa International's last flight is scheduled to leave by noon Friday. St. Petersburg-Clearwater International is closed.

Amtrak: Train service between New York City and Miami is temporarily suspended. Canceled trains that are affected are Silver Service trains: the Palmetto (trains 89, 90), the Silver Star (trains 91, 92) and the Silver Meteor (trains 97, 98). The Auto Train (trains 52, 53) between Lorton, Va., and Sanford is canceled. All passengers for those trains may take a later train when service resumes, or may request a refund.

Greyhound: Officials say they are monitoring the storm. Call (813) 229-8588 to check for bus information.

HARTline, HARTPlus, the TECO Line Streetcar and the Uptown, Downtown connector will be shut down Friday. Information: (813) 254-4278.

PSTA/DART: Service suspended today and Saturday. Normal service expected to resume Sunday. Those needing evacuation transportation should call Citizens Information Center, (727) 464-4333.

SCHOOLS

Elementary, middle and high schools and offices in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Hernando, Citrus, Pasco, Polk and Manatee counties are closed.

Barry University: Closed. Information: (305) 899-3195 or (954) 655-9323.

Eckerd College: Closed. Weekend programs canceled. Information: (727) 867-1166 or toll-free 1-800-456-9009 for updates.

Hillsborough Community College: Closed.

St. Petersburg College: Closed; scheduled to reopen Monday.

Stetson University College of Law Gulfport and Tampa campuses: Expected to reopen Saturday morning at 9 a.m., weather permitting. Additional information: www.law.stetson.edu

University of Tampa: Closed.

International School of Design: Closed.

Ringling School of Art and Design: Closed; scheduled to reopen Sunday, conditions permitting.

BANKS

Suntrust, Bank of America, South Trust and Florida Central Credit Union will be closed; others are closing on a case-by-case basis or closing early.

SOCIAL SERVICES

Neighborly Care Network Services: Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Care, Senior Dining, Transportation, Pharmacy, Home Health and Administration are suspended. The Neighborly Pharmacy Dedication scheduled for 5-7 p.m. at the Sunshine Center in St. Petersburg has been canceled. Information: Sandi Narron, (727) 573-9444, ext. 203.

ATTRACTIONS

Busch Gardens: Closed today; will make decision on Saturday's hours later today.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Florida Aquarium: Closed.

Florida International Museum: Reception for the Midtown: Through Our Eyes exhibit has been postponed.

Lowry Park Zoo, Museum of Fine Arts, Salvador Dali Museum: Closed.

Ringling Museum of Art: Closed today and Saturday.

ENTERTAINMENT

American Stage: Canceled all performances (My Way at the Palladium Theater in St. Petersburg; Byline: The Life of Ernie Pyle at American Stage Theatre in St. Petersburg and God's Man In Texas at Tampa Prep). Call the American Stage box office, (727) 823-7529, with questions. A show will be added Sunday night for My Way and Ernie Pyle.

Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center (Tampa): Canceled concert by ukulele player Jake Shimabukuro and performance of Delusion of Darkness. Refunds available at the point of purchase.

Show Palace Dinner Theatre (Hudson): Run for Your Wife has been canceled. Those holding tickets may reschedule for 8 p.m. Saturday or 3 p.m. Sunday.

Stage West Community Playhouse (Spring Hill): Performance of Master Class canceled. Those with tickets should call (352) 683-5113 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday to reschedule.

Florida Studio Theatre (Sarasota ): Canceled performances of 10 Unknowns and Dorothy Parker: One Foot in Scarsdale.

Museum of Science and Industry (Tampa): The Olympics opening ceremonies viewing party has been changed to a closing ceremonies viewing party on Aug. 29.

Wine & Song III at the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg has been rescheduled for Wednesday.

SHOPPING MALLS

Tyrone Square Mall: The stores and the movie theater will tentatively remain open.

Crossroads Mall, University Mall, Brandon Town Center, Citrus Park Town Center and Westshore Plaza are closed.

International Plaza and University Mall are monitoring the storm.

RELIGIOUS SERVICE

Temple Beth-El in St. Petersburg is closed. The 8 p.m. Shabbat service is canceled.

SATURDAY

Ticket sales for the Oct. 2 Toby Keith concert at the Ford Amphitheatre in Tampa have been postponed to 10 a.m. Aug. 21.

Classic Car Cruise-In in New Port Richey and the Downtown Gallery Walk in St. Petersburg are canceled.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters Big Day in Spring Hill has been postponed to Aug. 21.

Florida International Museum: A demonstration related to the Hubble exhibit has been postponed.

Ruth Eckerd Hall: Auditions for Chocolate Nutcracker have been postponed to Aug. 21-22.

The Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County canceled a 9 a.m. candidates forum at the Pinellas Realtors Organization.
